Backer column heater is a unique heating solution for bitumen tanks, chemical handling, and asphalt production. The heater replaces oil- or gas-fired heating, enabling the plant to operate on electricity rather than fossil fuels. The column heater heats the tank indirectly, with both convection and radiation. Normally, existing flue gas tubes in tank wagons, trucks, or larger stationary tanks are used for fitting the column heater. Backer AB provides concepts for column heaters for installation in empty tubes up to 350mm in diameter and up to 8m in length, with different operating voltages. The column heater can be equipped with power and temperature controls or fully customized to customer requirements. It is particularly robust and durable, providing long, trouble-free operation. During service and maintenance, the column heater can be dismantled from the tank without emptying the contents, saving a lot of time and reducing environmental risks.
