The 110 kW High Power Resistor (HPR) from Backer AB is a brake resistor designed for battery-electric and hybrid commercial vehicles. Intended for continuous and reliable braking independent of the service brake, it dissipates excess electrical energy as heat when the traction battery cannot absorb additional power. The generated heat is transferred to the vehicle’s coolant circuit and managed through the thermal system.

Currently under development, the 110 kW HPR is being engineered in alignment with automotive standards. It operates together with a dedicated control unit, includes dual temperature sensors for accurate thermal monitoring, and can be adapted to meet specific application requirements.
